In 1828, Butler's only U.S. senator, Walter Lowrie, constructed a house. After Lowrie, the Shaw family lived in the house until giving it to the Butler Historical Society in 1986. Requiring a complete restoration, the house now welcomes the public on Sundays from 1pm to 3pm, May to August or by appointment. It can also be used for special events.
